Facts
• There is a false belief amongst many people that the Thirumannkaappu symbol
represents cheating and several jokes are framed based on this notion

• As seen in earlier slides, the symbol represents Sriman Narayana and Sri
Mahalakshmi. It is also the symbol of Sri Vaishnavam. Hence, one expresses
that s/he is the servant of the Lord and His Consort when they wear it.

• Though the symbol represents the Lord’s divine feet and Sri Mahalakshmi, the
Lord Himself wears it because He loves whatever His Devotees love and so, He
wears it just the way His Devotees do.

• Thiru + Mann + Kaappu

– Thiru is suffixed as a mark of respect to the divine symbol
– Mann refers to the white-colored sand using which Thirumannkaappu is
prepared
– Kaappu refers to the fact that the symbol offers protection to the person
who wears it

• Also called Thirunaamam as the Lord’s name along with Sri Mahalakshmi’s
name has to be recited while wearing it [Thiru is suffixed as a mark of respect
while naamam means name].
