TOP 10 WORLDS AIR POLLUTED COUNTRIES

The carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere is the primary cause of Global Warming. Numerous researches have been done to determine which countries emit the most amount of carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere. They all came up with the following ranking. Here are the Top 10 air polluting countries of the world from the least (10) to greatest (1) air polluter. 1- CHINA

Finally, the title of the worlds greatest air polluter goes to China. Its population of 1.3 billion people contributes significantly to the pollution. Another major source of air pollution is the transportation industry. It also burns significant amount of oil fuels for goods production. Collectively Chinas carbon dioxide sources emits a total of six billion eighteen million tonnes (6.018 BT) of carbon dioxide. China does not show any signs of efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. 2- UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The United States held the number one spot on years prior to 2007. It comes in second place not because it decreased it carbon dioxide emission though. Nevertheless it is till the second greates air polluter of the present times. It produces five billion eight hundred thirty three million tonnes (5.833 BT) of carbon dioxide every day. The bulk of the carbon dioxide sources is the burning of oil fuels. It uses 18.69 million barrels of oil each day.

3- RUSSIA

Russia produces one billion, seven hundred four million tonnes (1.704 BT) of carbon dioxide gas each year. The Russian government expressed its willingness to reduce its gas emission by 25% with the condition that China, U.S. and other countries which contribute significantly to the air pollution problem do the same thing. This statement by Russia is somehow doubtful because it is eyeing on exploiting the vast oil reserves of the Arctic. This will eventually increase further Russias carbon dioxide emissions if pursued. Also, its big population size of 141,950,000 contributes significantly to the air pollution. 4- INDIA

India produces one billion, two hundred ninety three million tonnes (1.293 BT) of carbon dioxide each year. There are three major contributors to Indias air pollution. The first contributor is its very large population (second only to China) of 1.1 billion. The second is industrialization which is becoming more rampant in the 20th century. The third is increased production and exportation.

5- JAPAN

Japan even though renowned for its people love for nature is still the fifth air polluting country in the world. It produces one billion two hundred forty seven million tonnes (1.247 BT) of carbon dioxide each year. There are two factors that contribute significantly to Japans air pollution. The firs contributor is rampant urbanization. The second contributor is industrialization. To lessen the air pollution emission, officials of the Japanese Environment Agency have formulated various regulations for the transportation industry. 6- GERMANY

Germany produces eight hundred fifty eight million tonnes (858 MT) of carbon dioxide each year. Due to this very high amount of carbon dioxide gas emission, the United Nations has set a target for countries like Germany to lower their carbon dioxide emissions. Germany, is trying to comply with this target. German government officials, continually encourage their governed citizens to lower or minimize energy consumption. Germany made a goal to reduce its electricity consumption by 13% in the year 2020. There are also plans to recycle the heat produced from energy power plants.

7- CANADA

The contamination of air and water by air pollutants is a pressing concern for Canada. This country produces six hundred fourteen tonnes (614 T) of carbon dioxide gas each year. Canada being ranked seventh in the list would be shocking for some. Canada is known for its sustainable development and high class living. The reason for the bulk of air pollution in Canada is the mining industry. Mining is rampant on this country. Mining process release great amounts of carbon dioxide gas, nitrous oxides, and sulfur oxides. These gases cause global warming. 8- UNITED KINGDOM

The United Kingdom emits five hundred eighty six tonnes (586 T) of Carbon Dioxide each year. There were already numerous efforts to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions, like increase in energy consumption efficiency, however this and similar efforts are still not enough. The major source of carbon dioxide is the transportation industry. The burning of coal and fossil fuels also release significant amount of carbon dioxide gas. To show the seriousness of U.K.s desire to reduce its carbon dioxide emission, it is already planning to create wind farms. The wind farms that it plans to build even bigger than the existing once.

9- SOUTH KOREA

South Koreas move towards industrialization has its adverse implications. Its atmosphere receives five hundred fourteen tonnes (514 T) of industrial gas. The gas is a mixture of sulfur oxides and carbon dioxide. Sulfur oxides, aside from causing global warming, can also cause acid rain. The usual sources of carbon dioxide gas are technology based industries. The usual source of sulfur oxides is the transportation industry. The burning of oil fuels releases both sulfur oxides and carbon dioxide gas. 10- IRAN

Tehran, Irans capital has too much air pollution that one of its local officials described being on that city as collective suicide! Iran emits four hundred seventy one (471) tonnes (T) of carbon dioxide each year. As a result of this great volume of carbon dioxide gas in Irans atmosphere, the country experiences air and water pollutions. The Caspian Sea, in particular, id highly threatened. The biological diversity of the Caspian Sea is diminished.
