Graph A Function

Jie Liang January 17, 2013

I will present three ways to graph the function f (x) = 22x + 1. 1 Shift-Reect. y = 2x 4 y = 2x2 4 4 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 Shift 2 unit to the RIGHT and get the point (0+2, 1) and H.A. y = 0. 4 1 2 3 4 y = 2(x2) 6 4 y = 22x + 1

2 Lift up 1 unit and get the point (2, 1+1) and H.A. y = 1.

The parent function with one point (0, 1) and H.A. y = 0.

Reect on the x = 2 line and get the point (2, 1) and H.A. y = 0.

2 Reect-Shift. y = 2x 4 y = 2x 4 y = 2x+2 8 8 6 2 2 4 2 2 2 2 1 1 2 2 Shift 2 unit to the RIGHT and get the point (0+2, 1) and H.A. y = 0. 4 6 4 2 2 Lift up 1 unit and get the point (2, 1+1) and H.A. y = 1. 4 y = 22x + 1

The parent function with one point (0, 1) and H.A. y = 0. 3 Three-Points. y = 22x + 1 8 6 4 2

Reect on the y -axis and get the point (0, 1) and H.A. y = 0.

The connected graph of y = 22x + 1 with points (2, 2), (0, 5) and (1, 9). x y -1 9 0 5 2 2
