Renjith Maheshwari not to be conferred Arjuna awards due to dope related offence
Athlete Renjith Maheshwari will not be conferred Arjuna awards 2013 as he had been found guilty of a
dope related offence. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports came across news reports that Maheshwari
had been found guilty of a dope related offence. After detailed investigations, the Ministry has
determined that Maheshwari was found to have used a scheduled substance (ephedrine) during the
46th National Athletic Championships at Kochi in 2008.

Mohemmadan Sporting won the 126th Durand Cup Football tournament. The final clash saw
Mohemmadan Sporting battling out with ONGC. The Mohemmadan Sporting lifted the cup at the
Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on 19

September 2013 after 73 years. The club won the the Durand
Cup, back in 1940.
Union Cabinet Approved Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited's Refinery in Rajasthan
The Union Cabinet approved setting up of a 9 million tonne refinery-cum-petrochemical complex by
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, HPCL's, in Barmer, Rajasthan. Hindustan Petroleum
Corporation Limited (HPCL) would setup the refinary as a Joint Venture (JV) with Government of
Rajasthan under the name HPCL-Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL).
PM dedicates Super Thermal Power plant in Chhattisgarh to the nation
The Prime Minister dedicated a Super Thermal Power Plant worth 2980 Megawatt capacity to the
nation. He laid the foundation stone for the proposed 4,000 Megawatt Super Thermal Power Project of
NTPC to be set up at Lara village in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. The Seepat Power Plant of the NTPC
is the first project of the NTPC using Super Critical Technology. This technology is the next generation
method of power generation that saves coal and also maintains ecological balance, which will result in
affordable electricity to the public.
The French Senate Approved Ban on Beauty Pageants for Children below 16 Years
The French Senate approved the ban on beauty pageants for children below the age of 16 years. The
Legislation included imposing the fine as well as punishment in form of imprisonment. This amendment
was taken up on the basis of a report entitled Against Hyper-Sexualisation: A New Fight For Equality.
ISROs GSAT-7 Transponders Successfully Switched on
All the 11 communication transponders (operating in UHF, S, C and Ku-bands) of India`s advanced
multiband communication satellite GSAT-7 have been successfully switched on and their performance is
found to be normal. GSAT-7 is now positioned at its designated orbital slot of 74 deg East longitude in
the geostationary orbit and In Orbit Testing (IOT) of the 11 transponders is in progress.

Former BCCI Secretary Jaywant Lele passed away in Vadodara after he sufferred a heart attack. He was
75. Jaywant Lele had become the BCCI secretary in 1996 and stayed in this post till 2001.

A 1000-year-old sculpture of a yogini with a buffalo head was donated by a French woman called
Martine Schrimpf in 2008 to the Indian embassy in Paris. Thereafter, the Yogini returned safely to India
in the month of August, 2013. The Yogini Vrishanana has been displayed in a show called The Return of
the Yogini at the National Museum from September 19 to October 6.

services with the cooperation of Netherlands-based ING Group. The new direct banks will basically
provide services to retail clients, small and micro enterprises by providing financial products and
services. Direct banking system was already successful in European markets and U.S. markets.
