Iraq 161Country to Ratified Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT)
Iraq Government ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) at 68th session of UN
General Assembly at New York, U.S.A. Iraq's ratification of the treaty raised the number of countries that
have adhered fully to the treaty to 161. The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty was adopted by
the United Nations General Assembly as a resolution on 10th September 1996. So far 183 States have
signed the Treaty of which 161 have now also ratified it.
World's First Carbon Nanotube Computer 'Cedric' Unveiled
The first computer built with carbon nanotubes instead of silicon has been unveiled in California.
Researchers at Stanford University said that the prototype device could mark the start of a second
computing revolution. The device is able to perform at faster speeds, for less power and in smaller form
factors than traditional silicon computers. The team reported in the journal Nature that the computer,
named 'Cedric', is the most complex carbon-based electronic system in the world.
Kavanagh Poetry Award for Indian-American poet Rafiq Kathwari
An Indian-American poet Rafiq Kathwari has become the first non-Irish person to have won the
prestigious 2013 Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award for the collection of his debut poems "In Another
Country".

The South Korean government has granted approval to begin construction on the worlds first invisible
tower, just outside of Seoul near the Incheon international airport. Designed by US-based GDS
Architects, the glass-encased Tower Infinity will top out at 1,476 feet and have the third highest
observation deck in the world. The project is backed by the state-owned Korea Land & Housing

The world's first inflatable concert hall is to open on Japan's disaster-hit north-eastern coast. British
sculptor Anish Kapoor and Japanese architect Arata Isozaki created the unusual Ark Nova, a balloon
made of a coated polyester material which has been erected at a park in the town of Matsushima. The
structure, which organisers say is a world's first, measures about 18 metres high and 35 metres wide
when fully inflated with room for about 500 guests. It can be easily deflated and travel around the
region to host events that "help bring people together"

The Iranian Paris-set tale drama The Past (Le Pass) has been named the countrys representative at the
Best Foreign Language Film section of the 2014 Academy Awards. Iran has submitted a total of
seventeen films for Oscar consideration in Best Foreign Language Film category since 1977. The 86th
edition of Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre
in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles, California.

Construction to build the world's first-ever underground thermal power plant in an urban area kicked off
in Seoul. The project entails building two underground generators directly under two thermal
generators currently in operation in Mapo, central Seoul. The construction is expected to cost a little
over 1 trillion won (US$931 million), and be completed by September 2016.

South India's first high altitude cricket stadium built in Krishnagiri in the hilly Wayanad district by Kerala
Cricket Association (KCA) would be inaugurated by state Governor Nikhil Kumar on November 15. This is

chairman.
Declare Sawantwadi-Dodamarg wildlife corridor as eco-sensitive area: HC
The Bombay High Court has directed the Centre and the Maharashtra government to declare the
Sawantwadi-Dodamarg wildlife corridor in the Sindhudurg district bordering Goa, as an eco-sensitive
area. The order came on a public interest litigation filed in 2010 which cited that the region with a rich
forest cover is an important wildlife corridor connecting the Radhanagari wildlife sanctuary with
Bhimgad sanctuary. The highly endangered species like the tiger and leopard use the belt to move from
one forest area to another. The court has directed that the procedure be completed before the end of
2013.
Ruchira Kamboj appointed the Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO
Ruchira Kamboj was appointed as the Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, Paris with the rank
of Ambassador. The government made this announcement. She will succeed VS Oberoi. At present,
Ruchira is joint secretary in Ministry of External Affairs.
