Access Methods for mobile network

U2 M3 Lecture 6

Objectives
Explain different channel access method

Multiple Access
Is a method to better utilize the radio spectrum by allowing several transmitters to send data simultaneously over a single communication channel. without causing interference. Types / schemes
code division time division frequency division

Code division multiple access (CDMA)

CDMA every communicator is allocated the entire channel all of the time. CDMA uses codes to identify connections
Many codes occupy the same channel each group of users is given a shared code.
only users associated with a particular code can communicate.

Time division multiple access (TDMA)

TDMA the channel is chopped into sequential time slices. Each user of the channel takes turns transmitting and receiving in a round-robin fashion.
Use channel for short bursts (time slice) gives way to others when its time is up

Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)

GSM is a digital mobile telephone system
built upon TDMA. Voice data digitizes and compresses

It operates at either the 900 MHz or 1,800 MHz frequency band. GSM has higher capacity than an analogue (regular TDMA). is the most widely used of the three wireless telephone technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA).
roaming agreements with foreign operators, users can often continue to use their mobile phones when they travel to other countries.

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)

GPRS is a packet-based wireless communication service based on GSM
data rates from 56 to 114 Kbps enhancing 2G phones to enable them to send and receive data more rapidly. data can be transferred at the same time as making a voice call.

Networking Considerations
When planning to rollout a network the following considerations must be made: cost (equipment, software, spectrum) security (network and physical) management (trained persons, optimize resources) expandability (growth, plan to expand must be time based) interconnectivity (both internal and external to the network)
