Description of Activities/Processes
Grade 3-4 students will draw of their faces from a photo for a self-portrait assignment, which students will express themselves with respect. For their final project they will sculpt clay houses into their own interpretations of what it means to respect their homes and families. They will also write on the back of their dried clay houses how they show respect for their homes and families. Grade 5 students will first demonstrate respect for themselves by creating an avatar character which will be how they truly depict themselves. They will enlarge it to life-sized using a grid onto cardboard, paint and cut it out to display in the school show case. For their final project they will go on a walking field trip around Nanton visiting 3 distinct sites in the community. Pictures will be taken at each site, of which 5 of the best photos will be voted upon by the students. The pictures will be merged into one mural. The mural will be gridded into blocks with each student being responsible for replicating their assigned block onto canvas with acrylic paint. Each student will write on the back of their canvas how they can or have shown how they show respect to their community. Both grades will complete an ABCs of ART workbook throughout the four months which they will learn and apply art elements to help them accomplish their ongoing assignments and projects.
