GEETANJALI INSTITUTE OF TECHNICAL STUDIES, DABOK

Final Year B. Tech. (VII Semester) I Internal Examination 2010-11

Sub : Computer Aided Design of Electrical Machines

Time:1 Hour 30 min.
Note: Attempt overall three questions, selecting one from each unit.

Max Marks: 20

UNIT-I (7 marks)

Q.1 Calculate the mmf required for the air gap of a machine having core length=0.32 m including 4 ducts of 10
mm each ,pole arc=0.19 m ,slot pitch =65.4 mm,slot opening =5 mm,air gap length=5mm,flux per pole=52 mWb.
Given carters co-efficient is 0.18 for opening/gap=1,and is 0.28 opening/gap=2.
OR
Determine the air gap length of a d.c.machine from the following particulars:gross length of core=0.12m,number
of ducts=1 and is 10 mm wide ,slot pitch=25 mm,slot width=10mm,carters co-efficient for slots and
ducts=0.32,gap density at pole centre =0.7Wb/m2,field mmf per pole=3900A,mmf required for iron parts of
magnetic circuit=800A.
UNIT-II (7 marks)

Q.2 Derive the expression of mmf of Air gap for slotted armature
OR
Discuss the Methods usually employed for the calculation of mmf required for Tapered teeth.
UNIT-III (6 marks)

Q.1 What are the considerations impose limitation on design?

OR
Discuss briefly the Electrical Engineering Materials
