PERFORMED TESTS: Chemical tests (measuring pH of the extract as per SN EN ISO 3071, measuring free and hydrolysable formaldehyde as per SN EN ISO 14184-1), microbiological test (as per SOP No. 3/19), and cytotoxicity tests (as per SN EN ISO 10993-5:2005, Part 5) were performed in the test laboratories of the Center of Health and Environmental Conditions accredited by IA No. 1206.3. The submitted samples were used for the above tests. EXPERT ASSESSMENT: The objective of the assessment was to identify any undesirable biological effects of the tested materials on contact with human skin. The tests were conducted to the extent the Methodical Recommendations of the SZ No. 1/2000 for assessment of the health safety of products that come into direct topical contact with human organism, i.e., the skin or mucous membranes (AHEM No. 3/2000).

CONCLUSION: Having examined the documentation presented, performed chemical and microbiological tests, and measuring the products cytotoxicity, we arrive at the conclusion that the above specified menstruation napkins are to the extent of the tests performed safe to the human health in respect of contact with human skin. The meet the basic requirements for safety of materials stipulated in Act No. 102/2001 Coll., on general product safety, as amended. This statement applies solely to the samples submitted and the conclusions derived from their assessment may only be attributed to products of the same type, whose composition and properties are identical to those of the submitted samples.

The test was performed as per SN EN ISO 10993-5:2005 Biological Testing of Health Care Products - Part 5: In Vitro Cytotoxicity Tests. Cellular line: Mouse fibroplasia - line Balb/c 3T3 Cultivation medium: DMEM with content of antibiotics (PNC 100 IU/ml, STM 100 g/ml) with 10% inactivated calf serum Positive control: sodium lauryl sulfate (LS) Negative control: Hydron - poly[(2-hydroxyethyl) methacrylate] Extract preparation: 3 cm2 of the samples surface per 1 ml extracting agent (DMEM w/o serum), 24 hours at 37 C. 100% extracts w ere diluted with DMEM without serum. Course of procedure: After 24 hours of pre-cultivation, the cellular culture was exposed to 10%, 25%, 50%, and 100% extracts from tested samples VZ1, VZ2, and VZ3 for 24 hours (37 C, 7,5% CO 2 ). Subsequently, the viability of the cellular culture was established on the basis of vital die integration (neutral red) using the fluorimetric method, and compared to the viability of culture exposed to the tested sample with negative control viability.
