State your program goal or research question and purpose. Question: Does the sophomore class at MHS understand the impact of positive and negative self-talk? Purpose: To gain insight on the students perceptions of the impact of self -talk. The guidance lesson aimed to increase awareness of how self-talk can affect an individuals beliefs about themselves. The lesson provided the students with skills and techniques related to control their self-concept and illustrate the impact that their perspectives have on the various systems of their lives (family, school, and community). Describe the data-collection strategies. The students were given a pre-test and post-test questionnaire to assess their understanding and beliefs about self-concept before and after the lesson. The questionnaire provided three statements that were to be answered on a Likert-scale based on the childs knowledge. The students indicated their individual responses by selecting whether they Agree, Somewhat Agree, or Disagree with the given statement. The questions were itemized in the following fashion: Agree [1]; Somewhat Agree [2]; Disagree [3]. The statements were: 1. I understand the impact that positive and negative self-talk has on my life; 2. Negative self-talk affects my relationships with others; 3. I recognize that I have control of how I feel about myself and self-worth. Summarize the results, and use graphs and charts to capture key results.

These charts display the differences in opinions and awareness based on self-evaluation of the MHS sophomore class. The results indicate that the unit lesson was an effective tool in raising awareness about positive self-concept and its impact on an individual. The most effective difference was shown in responses to Question 2 in which there was a 67% difference from the pre-test to post-test. Each of the charts show that a significant increase from pre to post-test results.

ANNOUNCE

Describe the implications and recommendations to stakeholders. The data displays a significant increase in overall awareness of self-concept, which indicates that the guidance lesson was effective in its purpose. Results show that sophomore students at MHS gained skills that allow them to effectively communicate within and beyond the classroom. This lesson is recommended for high school students in achieving the goal of acquiring the knowledge, attitude and interpersonal skills to help them understand and respect self and others.
