Markets: Mid Session

Up but volatile…
Indian markets opened the day in the green on the back of encouraging US consumer
confidence data and strong Asian markets. Our markets are volatile ahead of the
futures expiry tomorrow. Technology, metals, auto and realty stocks witnessed good
buying interest.

The Nifty rose 12 points and moved up to 4671 and the Sensex climbed up by 36 points
to settle at 15725. The BSE Midcap is up by 51 points, while the BSE Smallcap index
has risen by 111 points.

The US indices ended on a higher note as data showed that US consumer confidence
has risen. The reappointment of Bernanke also pushed the indices higher. Dow Jones
was up by 30 points to end the day at 9540, while the S&P 500 Index was up marginally
by 2.5 points to settle at 1028. The Nasdaq Composite too rose 6.2 points to reach
2024.

Following global cues, the FTSE 100 went up by about 0.42 per cent yesterday, and
closed the day at 4916.80.
