Volatile!
Our bourses opened the day on a weak note as US indices had ended flat and Asian
peers were trading in the red. Our markets remained volatile and blue chip stocks, like
HDFC, Reliance industries, Tata steel, Tata motors and ITC, came under pressure.
The Nifty rose 11 points and moved up to 4692 and the Sensex climbed up by 26 points
to settle at 15796. The BSE Midcap is up by 37 points, while the BSE Smallcap index
has risen by 94 points.
Better than expected home sales and durable goods data failed to lift US indices and
they ended on a flat note yesterday. Dow Jones was up by just 4.23 points to end the
day at 9543.52, while the S&P 500 Index was up marginally by 0.12 of a point to settle
at 1028.12. The Nasdaq Composite too rose just 0.20 of a point to reach 2024.43.
As mining stocks weighed down on the index, the FTSE 100 went down yesterday after
touching an 11-month high of 4916.80. The index fell 0.53 per cent yesterday, and
closed the day at 4890.58.
