Whats Animal Science?


Animal Science is a broad field that is concerned with the science and business of livestock and companion animals. It deals with three main components: 1. Food produced by and from animals (ex: meat, dairy food, or eggs) 2. The nutrition, care, and welfare of animals (ex: disease prevention/control) 3. Animal related recreation (ex: horseback riding)

How does the employment field look?


The food industry in the world today is one of the largest and most promising. With a growing population, there is an increasing need for more food. Animal Scientists are in demand as a way to solve global issues of food production, animal care, and recreation. Graduates with an understanding of the science and business of animal production for food or recreation, and the services it requires, find a wide variety of opportunities available. Do I have opportunities at BYU-Idaho?


Yes! BYU-Idaho can offer you one of the best opportunities as an undergraduate. Animal Science department offices, laboratories and some classrooms are housed at the Livestock Center five miles west of Rexburg while other classrooms are located on campus. Facilities include: indoor arena feedlot animal laboratory

meat processing lab horse barn 100 acres of irrigated fields

Van transportation is provided for many Livestock Center labs and classes, but occasionally transportation will be the responsibility of the students.
