"SCIMITAR"
Multi-Role Aerial Vehicle

BAI's Scimitar aerial vehicle is being developed to fulfill a broad variety of SCIence MIssion or TARget applications. Continuing the design tradition of many utility UAV's, Scimitar's twin-boom-pusher configuration allows forward-mounted payloads an unobstructed view for reconnaissance, surveillance, or target acquisition (RSTA) missions, or for airborne sampling of nuclear, biological, or chemical agents (NBC) and aerosols. A 50cc two-stroke gasoline engine is standard, however Scimitar is also available with an optional heavy-fuel (HFE) turbine engine to allow deployment of small remote sensing payloads at speeds and altitudes previously unachievable using conventional piston engines. The optional 18-lb. thrust turbine engine also provides the sweptwing Scimitar with a high-speed capability, making it a candidate for small high-speed aerial target applications. Scimitar was designed to incorporate BAI's Generation III Digital Flight Controller and miniature EO / IR payload.
