VOWELS
A vowel is a sound in spoken language. When sounding vowels, your breath flows freely through the mouth. Five of the 26 alphabet letters are vowels: A, E, I, O, and U Unlike consonants, each of the vowel letters has more than one type of sound or can even be silent with no sound at all. There are two types of vowel :a) Long vowels b) Short vowels

LONG VOWELS
When a vowel sounds like its name, this is called a long sound. Long vowels sound longer because the tongue glides from one place to another and the tightens. Long vowels have two parts and are more complex than short vowels.

SHORT VOWELS
A vowel letter can also have short sounds. Short vowels do not have two parts,so they are shorter and take less time to say than long vowels. The tongue stays in one place and does not glide. They can be thought of as simple vowels. Whether a vowel has a long sound, a short sound, or remains silent, depends on its position in a word and the letters around it.

DIPTHONGS
Dipthongs are a combination of two vowel sounds, which take some duration of time of a single long vowel. There are eight dipthongs :

TRIPHTHONGS
A triphthong is a glide from one vowel to another and then to a third, all produced rapidly and without interruption. A strong vowel in between two weak vowels a, e, and o are strong vowel.
