SCHOOL GAMES FEDERATION OF INDIA(S.G.F.

I) The School Games Federation of India was formed in Decemer 1954, with the objective of organising games competitions for boys and girls at the national level. At present about 24 states are members of this organisation. In the beginning, this organizatioon, organized competitions in a limited number of games and sports, once a year only. In 1959 at Mumbai meet, then a decision was taken to hold the competitions in two phases i.e. summer games and winter games. Football, Swimming, Kabaddi, Table Tennis and Basket Ball competition were held in summers. In winters, Badminton, Gymnastics, Hockey, Wrestling, Volleyball and Athletic competitions were held. The School Games Federation of India also sends school teams for participation in Asian school games competitions. The success of these games has helped in spreading the feelings of friendship among the participants and also promoting national integration and secularism in the country.
