1.Why it is called badminton? 2pts.
The game is named as Badminton, the land estate of the Dukes of Beaufort in
Gloucestershire, England, where it was played for the first time in 1873. The origins of the sport
can be traced back to ancient Greece, China and India, and are closely connected to the old
children's battledore and shuttlecock sports.

2. What is badminton and its history? 5 pts.


Badminton first originated in India during the 18th century where it was called "Poona".
It was played by that name until the 1870's. Our modern-day version of the game came from
England. It was introduced by the British Army officers as an upper-class amusement. The
English played the game of Badminton, the Hometown of the Duke of Beaufort in
Gloucestershire, England. Hence, the name badminton became the official name of the game.

3. What is the old name of badminton? 2pts.


Early on, the game was also known as Poona after the garrison town of Poona, where it
was especially popular and where the first rules for the game were made up in 1873. By 1875,
officers returning home had started a badminton club in Folkstone.

4. What are the different facilities and equipment of the game? 3pts.
Players will require a net, a shuttlecock, and at least two rackets to play badminton. The
facility that need is a badminton court. The net crosses the middle of the court of badminton.

Week 14: Basic skills in badminton


Rules and regulations of the game

1. What are the basic types of grips used in badminton? 2pts.
There are three basic types of grips used in badminton: Forehand, Backhand and
the frying pan.
2. What are the different strokes used in badminton? 2 pts.
There are five different types of badminton shots or strokes: Serves, clears,
smashes, drives and drops. Each of the five different shots used in different situations
throughout the game.
3. How the shuttlecock serves correctly? 5pts.
The shuttlecock, or birdie, must be below the waist on a serve. On a serve, the feet
of the server must remain stationary and the shuttlecock must be served underhand. It
is legal if the shuttlecock lands on the lines (lines are good). It is legal if the shuttlecock
hits the wood or metal part of the racket. It is legal if the shuttlecock hits the net and
goes over except on a serve.
