BLACKBOARD (Learning Forum for Managers at JLT India)

Bala with Kavi Arasu (Head of L&D Asian Paints) Learning must be simplified and easy to consume and often the best learning is an engaging discussion with peers or networking with leaders and sharing perspectives. This was the intent behind the monthly targeted at the managerial audience in India that was started in January 2013. Each month we invite leaders (Internal / External) to share their views on a chosen theme with our managers & lead a discussion. In 2014, we have decided to engage senior leaders from the industry to visit JLT India & share perspectives & best practices from their organisations with us. We were happy to host Mr. Kavi Arasu (Head of Learning & Development - Asian Paints) at JLTI on January 10th. Kavi led an engaging discussion on how learning has evolved over the last few years and the work that Asian Paints is doing in grooming its managers & leaders. Some of the key messages shared by Kavi with our managers included: Learning has moved from being course centric to conversation centric & community based Learning needs to get embedded in the job to derive maximum benefit & also ensure retention The era of classroom training is being replaced by coaching & mentoring led by line managers HR & learning are way too important functions to be left only to the HR department. Involvement of line managers is critical to success Involvement of learners & their immediate managers in designing a learning intervention is the most important aspect within an organisation The 90 min session was engaging with lots of Q&A built into the discussion. We look forward to inviting other senior industry leaders to JLTI in the months to come. Watch this space for more.
