Sunrise Avenue, Murrays Bay, North Shore City 0630 Telephone: 0 !"##!$%$% &acsimile: 0 !"#'!'0#% ((()m*i)school)n+ Monday 10rd February Dear Parents/Caregivers, Firstly, welcome to Murrays Bay Intermediate and the start o another e!citing and big ste" in your child#s school li e$ My name is Michael %wing and I am the teacher in &oom '0$ I am very e!cited about '01( as it is my irst year at Murrays Bay Intermediate$ I am married and my wi e is the Dance and Drama s"ecialist in the middle school at )ingsway *chool in +rewa$ I en,oy being outdoors and love water s"orts li-e -aya-ing and ishing and "rior to com"leting my Bachelor o .eaching, I wor-ed in retail where I managed a team o sales "eo"le in the area o electronics$ .his year I will be teaching every .uesday to Friday and Melanie Pollard will ta-e the class each Monday$ .he irst ew days/wee-s/months are generally a settling in "eriod or new students coming rom "rimary school$ +ur school is large, runs on a si! day timetable and students attend s"ecialist classes$ /ll o these things are generally new to year 0 students and ta-e a while to get used to$ I ho"e to ma-e this transition as smooth as "ossible or the students$ 1e have a 2Meet the .eacher# evening on .uesday 13 th February at 0$00"m and this is when I will go through how the school and class run in more detail$ I sent home a co"y o the class timetable last wee- so I ho"e you have received that and I#d ,ust li-e to remind everyone that P% gear needs to be brought to school every day as does your child#s device, i a""licable$ Please ma-e sure the device is ully charged each day$ I will also "rovide a co"y o the term one overview o to"ics and students will have co"ies o these or their "lanners$ I will be using a behavior management system which resembles that o a real economy and every child will have at least one classroom ,ob or which they will receive a salary o 2&oom '0 money# each month$ .hey will "ay rent or their chair and the loor s"ace they use and will receive bonuses or "ositive behavior and other achievements$ .here will also be ines or things li-e being late to class or being o tas-$ /t the end o each term, students will receive a ban- balance and will be given the o""ortunity to s"end their hard earned cash in a class auction$ .his is where your su""ort is needed$ .his system relies somewhat on the generosity o "arents and caregivers as without interesting items to loo- orward to buying, the students lose interest in the system$ My re4uest to all "arents and caregivers is this$ I you have anything around the home that you no longer need or want and that you thin- may be o interest to other children, "lease send it to school with your child$ Items that are brought in by students will be "urchased rom them so students that bring in more will have more money to s"end at the auction$ *tudents learn a lot o li e s-ills through this system and by term two, they begin to understand the value o money as their e!"erience during the irst auction will have re lected their e ort throughout the term$ 1
