This document describes low pass and high pass filters. A low pass filter's transfer function is H(s) = 1/(s+1), allowing low frequencies to pass while attenuating higher frequencies. A high pass filter's transfer function is H(s) = s/(s+1), having the opposite effect of attenuating low frequencies and passing higher frequencies. Both filters are derived by representing the impedance of a capacitor Zc as 1/jwc and simplifying the transfer functions H(jw) by letting the product of resistance and capacitance RC equal 1.
