Great Depression Scenarios


Scenario #1: You are a wheat farmer in Oklahoma. You have been farming your whole life. Your farmland is
turning to dust due to lack of rain, severe dust storms, and over farming on the land. You are out of money and have been unable to grow or sell anything for a year. The bank is threatening to foreclose on your farm. You have five kids and a wife.

Scenario #2: You are a sheriff in Ari ona. !very day numerous unem"loyed young men from across the country
are coming to your city either by train or on foot. The local citi ens are fearful that these outsiders are going to ruin their town by driving wages further down and causing an increase in unem"loyment.

Scenario #3: You are mother of three young children living in #acramento, $alifornia. Your husband has been out
of work for %& months and you have 'ust been evicted from your home. Your sister in (os Angeles has offered to take your children until you and your husband can find a means of su""ort.

Scenario #4: You are a )e*ican+ American who was born and raised in $alifornia. You are a law abiding citi en
who has been working in the agricultural fields of $entral $alifornia. You have been hearing rumors of a government "lan to take away your 'ob and send you to )e*ico so that a ,real American- can take your "lace.

Scenario #5: You are a veteran of .orld .ar /. /n %012, $ongress "assed a bonus bill which would give you a
cash bonus for your services in ../. This bonus would not be "aid until %023. #ince the de"ression hit in %010, you would like the "ayment of your bonus early. You have 'oined the 4onus !*"editionary 5orce to march on .ashington 6.$. in %071. The ,4onus Army- is made u" of veterans across the country who have come to .ashington to demand an early "ayment of their bonus. 8resident 9oover and $ongress do not feel that the government has the money to "ay the bonus early.
