Goals: Students will compose a strong research paper using MLA format Objectives: Students will explore the resources available to them in the Media Center Students will identify helpful resources for their topic of interest

Standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.8 Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, using advanced searches effectively; assess the usefulness of each source in answering the research question; integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of ideas, avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.9 Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. Co-Teaching Strategy/Strategies: One Teach, One Assist Materials: Notebook Pen/Pencil Index cards from previous class periods

Introduction: Students will begin with brief introduction of expectations for the media center Procedure: 1. Return 5 index cards to students before going to the media center. 2. Students will be led in a presentation by the librarian who will show them the resources available to them for their upcoming research project. 3. Once the presentation is complete, students will quietly explore the resources and determine which resources may be useful for their topic. 4. In the last 5 minutes of class, students will write down the resources they found to be the most useful and why. Index cards should be returned at this time. Evaluation: Students should present 2-3 resources found that may be helpful for their topic of interest.
