Primary Colors Lesson- Physical Science

Behavioral Objective(s): Students will be able to state the primary colors. Students will be able to demonstrate what colors can be made from the combination of primary colors. Pennsylvania State Academic Standard(s): 9.1c.2 Production & Performance (Visual Arts) construction: Combine a variety of materials to create new products 3.2a.4 Physical Sciences (Chemistry) reactions: Experiment with changes in substances when combined Materials and/or Equipment: Sun catchers Paint and paintbrush Rainbow Color cards (color + color = color) Crayons Modifications for Individual Differences: For students with disabilities, I will make sure that they understand the color matching game and will help them pick the right match for the end color. I will also paint their sun catcher for them after asking what color the student wants the specific section on the sun catcher. Activities and Procedures: Anticipatory Set: 1. Students will be shown a rainbow and asked to name the colors on it. 2. Students will then be told that these colors are called primary. 3. Students will be shown color cards (1 color + 1 color = color) and asked what the color will be when the two primary colors are added together Lesson Sequence: 1. Students will be given a color card and be then asked what color they should add to it to get the desired color shown then demonstrate this color combination with crayons. 2. Students will play the color card matching a couple times. 3. Students will be given a sun catcher and will paint it. Closure: Students will finish up their sun catchers and will play the color card matching game again to make sure that they are able to mix the colors and get the correct resulting color. Evaluation: When students are finished with their sun catchers, they will tell the teacher one of the colors on their sun catcher and tell the teacher if it is a primary color or not.
