Task 1c analyse the double page spread from NME September 2009 (Dizzee Rascal edition)

Sub Heading: affirms the article is about Dizzee Rascal and gives and over view of what its based on, this is tradition in magazines By line: gives credit to the photographer and the author of the article. Its small because it has little relevance to the article/ fans. This is another convention of music magazines. Heading: links perfectly with the key image and gives us a lyrical meaning to what the article is on. It is also a play on words, instead of rags to riches this uses tags, this links to gang culture and connotes that Dizze might have been in a gang before he was a rap artist and how his life changed. It follows convention by using large font and taking up a large space on the page. Second image: the bottles and the boom box together connotes a party and also link into the main image and article, the audience can presume that this means even during ruff times eg alcohol abuse possibly, music was a big part of his life. A Drop cap is used to show the start of the article this is a common device in magazine articles to make the page look more inviting. This is a convention of magazine articles Key image/ Mise en scene: he is in a red jacket, a white top and black jeans with white patterning. This not only links in to the colour scheme of the magazine but also the style of clothing denotes he is a rap artist. The room is covered with graffiti again linking in with the genre of music however it also links to the head line which mentions tags which is slang for graffiti. The empty alcohol bottles and boom box also connote this thug lifestyle we can imagine him having before he found music. This is a medium shot which is conventional for double page spreads also the key image takes up the entire left page, this is another convention as the reader sees the left side first and will be interested in the artist.
