An online version of NME (NME.com) was launched in 1996 it is now the worlds biggest stand alone music site having 7 million users per month. Its first issue was published on 7th March 1952 in the name Accordion Times and Musical Express which started on 4th October 1946 after being bought by London music promoter Maurice Kinn, for 1,000, just 15 minutes before it was due to be officially closed. It was re-launched as the New Musical Express. It shares a great musical history with the Britpop era of music, a term the writers of the magazine created and shares an affiliation with new

Indie rock, rock, alternative grunge and classic punk rock music .
The current editor is Connor McNicholas and is currently owned by The company IPC.

The price of this magazine is 5.99 and included is 100 pages. It has a music genre of indie/rock, and the featured band on the front is the arctic monkeys. We know that this emphasizes the genre of music as this particular band specialises in indie/rock songs.
This is the magazine cover straight away we can clearly see what the subject of the magazine is about Arctic Monkeys due to the mast-head. The main image in the background is a picture of the band, it is a close up pose so there is high quality. The models are looking directly out of the magazine and into eye-line of the reader, this could make the reader feel more involved. Situated in the bottom right hand corner are coverlines. Hyperbolic words such as featuring and greatest emphasize the popularity of the magazine therefore making it visually more professional. This issue of NME could appeal to both genders as the band is famously known and has a wide range of fans of all ages. The layout is simple but still effective as everything is in order and clear to understand for the reader. Evidently this magazine could be very special for the readers, as it contains information that could be new and undiscovered by others as the whole issue is dedicated to information on the band.

The NME magazine promotes other products in its online shop as well as the magazine. It advertises and sells different merchandise from many different band that have been associated with the magazine or are in the same music genre as NME. Not only does it promote merchandise but it has a section promoting tickets to the bands on the website, so you can buy tickets to the bands that are shown. This sale and promotion of merchandise for different bands indicates to people that the target audience is just people who are fans or people that are into this type of indie music.

NME has many different sponsors for many different events. A few of these are; Spotify, Sonos, XL videos and Dominos. These are stated as being sponsors for the events that NME carries out .

The website contains links to each of their sponsors, which promotes the promoters companies.

NMEs main focus for the content is the current artists who are producing new material and songs and they promise to be first on music news. This can be listing the up coming gigs, album and song releases, and the music charts. NME includes a section where the readers publish letters discussing their views on certain bands/ songs etc, making the readers feel included within the magazine. And towards the end of the magazine there is a section written by an artist expressing their points of view.

The fans treat the NME with a lot of respect, it is very popular and has its own awards therefore it is highly respected, and must have a good history. The NME awards has taken different forms over the years - in the 50s and 60s it was the Pollwinners' Concert, and from 1971 to 1993 it was a reader poll rather than a live event - but it's always been about the same thing: recognising and rewarding the very best in music. NME has been around for around 60 years, therefore it is very successful.
