How does your media product represent particular social groups?

TA?
My media product is for both genders. I wanted it to appeal to both as that way it has a larger target audience. I have ensured that it would appeal to both males and females as I have included artists that are male and female. I have also included articles that are interesting to both genders. I did some research before producing my magazine and the main age range I needed to target was 16/21 year olds. I feel my magazine hits this audience as the articles I have included, using the research, are what they want to read and also are suitable for the ages of 16/25.

Stereotype?
I have avoided the fact that a rock magazine is mostly heavy metal and filled with images of guys with long hair, dressed in black smashing their guitars, this is so my product doesnt conform to a great extent to the stereotypes about rock artists. I have done this by including a female on my front cover as it helps to tone this stereotype of people interested in rock. However, there are elements within my magazine that do conform to the stereotypes as I wanted to appeal to those most interested in rock.

AUDIENCE?
Rock/indie musicians and fans are most likely to read my magazine. This is mainly because of the content provided within, my target audience would have to be interested in the type of music information provided. Musicians in the magazine are represented in a positive way. For example ARCTIC MONKEYS TOUR SELLS OUT this highlights how well the band are doing.

Social group?
I have made my magazine conform mostly to the stereotypes as I wanted to appeal to those most likely to be into rock. This is shown through the mise en scene of my magazine and body language. The body language of the artist on my front cover comes across as a girl with attitude, which is why included flames. To make her seem fierce. Make up of the artist in my main cover mage is not the typical heavy rocker as I want the magazine to appeal to indie/rock also. Costume- cover image wearing dark colours Props- Instruments- includes lots of guitars, drums, Different shots taken The medium close up on the front cover engages the reader with the artists direct mode of address. The shots taken of the artists in my dps do not have direct mode of address however, it portrays them to be so involved with their music. I wanted to show the magazine to make the social group targeted to fit in with the genre of music. This meant I created a busy house style as rock is seen as loud.
