How does our media product represent a certain social group?

When I first started my music magazine I initially had plans to

make it a magazine directed towards the social group (age)
between the ages of 16-25. This was because of the
connotations that a jazz magazine ha. Its original purpose is to
be directed at an older age group. This is represented by the
originality of the terms jazz and the genre of music. I decided to
direct my music magazine towards this age group as I wanted
the much younger generation to experience a different culture
of music other than the recognisable genres, for example pop,
R&B and rap.
In order to make my chosen idea successful through my music
magazine cover, contents page and double page spread I used
my previous familiarity with Photoshop to manipulate my
photos. When thinking about my main image for each task I
managed to persuade my older sister who is 19 (a girl amongst
my chosen age group) to be the face of my magazine cover,
contents page and double page spread. I also used certain
sophisticated colours like burgundy and grey, the two colours
complement each other and make a well put together theme, I
did this to symbolise a more mature and stylistic format. To also
highlight my chosen age group of 16-25 I used social media
icons as a representation of how my viewers could keep up to
date with the latest news with my magazine. I thought this
would be a good idea and a way to illustrate my targeted social
group as this generation are almost obsessed with social
media, and use it to stay in touch with the latest fashion trends,
celeb gossip and obviously music.
