.7 Integrate visual information (e.g., in charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps) with other information in print and digital texts. Technology Standard: 1. Creativity and Innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Lesson Steps Time Teaching/Learning Activity Have students take out their tablets and open up a voice recording app. Put 2 minutes on a timer. Instruct students that they have 2 minutes to record everything they know about being a soldier. They must whisper into the microphone so that it only picks up their voices, and that they need to make sure that they try not to repeat their facts so that they can get the most information into their lists. Do a large group sharing of some of the things that they listed in their voice recording apps. At the end of the sharing, instruct students to take out their laptops, and open a new recording on their tablets. Materials Tablets, voice recording app, timer

20 mins Instruct students to research the life of Ancient Greek soldiers. On the board, write that they should find out what soldiers ate, what they wore, what battles were like, and any other information they might think is important. When they find these, they should record their findings in their voice recording apps. 10 mins Do a compare/contrast discussion about how life is the same/different for soldiers in Ancient Greece and soldiers today. 5 mins Close lesson by giving them their ticket out activity: a half sheet of paper where they write 3 ways soldiers today and in Ancient Greece are the same, 2 ways they are different, and 1 new thing they learned.
