Asaph Rangel ESLR: Effective Problem Solvers 03/27/14 The Boy Who Could Generally speaking, many people

do not regularly study math subjects other than Algebra through statistics. However,I have been able to take a Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus class because of my tenacity to be knowledgeable in math. Even though I am able to understand several types of math, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus were very difficult for me, for their formulas and rules are different than anything else I have seen. My experience in this class was very much distinct from all of the other math subjects I have taken before. The reason why I chose this artifact to represent my Effective Problem Solvers ESLR was due to its many difficult concepts, and the several times I asked for help because of them. This one class alone was one of the greatest learning experiences for the Effective Problem Solvers ESLR because of its overall difficulty and the strangeness,or unfamiliarity, of the concepts. But I was able to pass the class in the end; I was able to pull through the excruciating class by having the ability to learn and understand. It was thanks to these abilities that I was capable of passing my Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus class, because without them, I would have had a more rough time. It also shows that Im talented in the general subject of math because Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus are very taxing on the mind and, as a result, pose questions that force me to recall information that was formerly known. I strongly believe that some people might look at this with amazement while others will look at it with no real expression. My artifact almost always forced me into seeking assistance from my teacher--something that was common for me to do, really. With little to no understanding of the class, frustration was an everyday problem that I faced, but I usually handled it by daydreaming as a mental break. As

I stated earlier, encountered many problems concerning my artifact, but there were certain times where I was able to evaluate and solve them with no difficulties. The only real skill I was required to have was being able to apply what I learned and being able to comprehend what I was doing. Overall, the class itself was very difficult in nature, thus it needed comprehension of mathematical terms and a large attention span. This is personally important to me because it reminds me of the struggles I encountered while in that class, and the challenges I conquered. It is important to my academic development because universities and colleges will be looking for students with many great achievements, this being one of them. I plan to apply the knowledge I have gained from this class into future tests and evaluations in order to show my math expertise. I also hope to utilize this knowledge by actually encountering a real-life event that requires me to use Trigonometry or Pre-Calculus. Furthermore, it is relevant to my future because I will not be required to retake these subjects again, while some people may still be required to take it.
