Swift: Ecology

7th Grade Science, April 7th 11th

Objectives:
Energy Effect on Food Web: The learner will be able to diagram and describe the transfer of energy (almost all the energy source is from the sun) in an aquatic food web and a land food web with reference to producers, consumers, decomposers, scavengers, and predator/prey relationships. (MPS7-5) Effect of Ecosystems: The learner will be able to identify biotic and abiotic factors found in an ecosystem and be able to predict how these factors affect the populations and species found in ecosystems: competition, food sources, temperature, pollution, habitat destruction, global warming, floods, and forest fires. (MPS7-4) Survival Advantages: The learner will be able to predict how certain traits and structural features (e.g. structure of teeth, body structure , coloration, hollow bones/flight, hair/insulation, dense root structure/compact soil, and seed vs. spore) may offer a survival advantage to an organism. (MPS7-3) Element Cycles: The learner will be able to illustrate the recycling of matter in the water, nitrogen and carbon cycles. (MPS7-6)
