Cougars Fall Short at Raymond Central


The Cougar wrestling team felt a bit short handed at the their rst duals of the season as they forfeited several weight classes against their opponents on Friday at the Raymond Central Mustang Dual Tournament.! They started the night against a strong Wahoo Neumann squad and fell 65-12. Getting wins for the Cougars were Joey Simpson with a pin over Jesse Pearce in 0:25, and Jacob Sawyer with a pin over Dalton Cline in 2:08.! Berens by pin over Ty Heinert in 1:54, Joey Simpson, Ryan Colgrove, Jake Herz, Andy Eden, Sam Simpson, Brook Wagner and Jacob Huckleberry all by forfeit.!

The Cougars then faced DC West who also were not able to eld a full squad. The Cougars then fell to the Platteview Conestoga prevailed in their dual 48-36. Trogans 72-12 with Zane Berens and Continued on Page 2! Cougars that earned wins were Zane

Continued from Page 1! Joey Simpson leading the way. Simpson won by forfeit and Zane won by pinning Justin Prazen in 1:53.! Conestoga then wrestled a tough Raymond Central squad and lost 54-24. Jacob Sawyer and Bryan Richard both recorded pins for the Cougars with Jacob Huckleberry and Joey Simpson receiving forfeits. ! The nal dual of the night featured a fellow Cass County foe in Weeping Water. The indians were able to edge out the Cougars 42-30. Winners in the match were Jacob Sawyer by pin over Christian McAfee in 0:58, Sam Simpson by pin over Jake Meyer in 2:32, and Joey Simpson by pin over Jake Hall in 1:14. Other winners by forfeit were Bryan Richard and Ryan Colgrove. ! Overall the Cougars are now 1-4 in duals overall. They next wrestle in the Cass County Quad versus Plattsmouth, Louisville, and Weeping Water. They will nish the pre-Christmas season with a tournament at Johnson County Central on Saturday, December 21st.!

Injured Cougars Finish Tough Week


The Cougar Wrestling team fought through a tough rash of injuries this week and still managed to nd success. Senior Jim Drake (126) has yet to nd the mat with an injured wrist, Sophomore Ryan Colgrove (145) injured his hip this week in practice, Junior Joey Simpson (285) injured his knee in the Cass County Quad. Freshman Zane Berens (152) injured his back in practice this week, Junior Austin Gress (160) injured his shoulder and has not yet competed this season. ! hard fought losing battle against Louisville 39-24. Also a dual against Weeping Water which they lost 42-18.! The Cougars then nished their preChristmas season at Johnson County Central where they only took six wrestlers but left with ve medals.! Jacob Huckleberry (220) nished in 2nd, Jacob Sawyer (126) took 3rd place along with Brook Wagner (195). Sam Simpson (182) took 4th place along with Jake Herz (145).!

Through all of this the Cougar wrestling The Cougars nished in 6th place out of 7 teams. team still fought hard through tough duals against Plattsmouth, losing 69-9. A

Cougars Finish 1st Half of Season, Look To Be a Different Team Second Half
The rst half of the wrestling season is over and their have been several high points and many learning experiences. But through it all, the Cougars look to take the second half by storm. Injuries have plagued the team early but hopefully they boys can come back in the second half stronger than in the rst.! With our weights dropping throughout the rst half and over Christmas Break, we are hoping that our weights in the second half of the season look a little more like the following. It will allow us to be more competitive over the long grind of the season.! 106 113 OPEN!
