Who Let the Sounds Out? (whole group)

As a whole class, the students played a hula hoop game. Three hula hoops representing the beginning, middle, and ending sounds were placed on the floor. Pictures were displayed on the Promethean Board and students were asked to identify the sounds and their placement within the word. Upon doing this, they jumped into the corresponding hula hoop. When all the hoops were full, the students sounded out the phonemes to make the word. 1. Worked through the Discussion of Phonemic Awareness phonemes and how Instructional Routine they make words.

plan (see Appendix for plan). 2. Introduced and practiced using Elkonin boxes with cubes to represent phonemes in words. 3. Students worked in groups of two (one student was absent) on ABC Reading Magic 6 and KinderSmarts apps, while the teacher worked with another student using the KinderSmarts app. This student focused on sounding out phonemes to make words, as well as on rhyming words. --- Assessment day --(done with each student individually)

Practiced sounding out words using their arm parts to symbolize the sounds shoulder (beginning), elbow (middle), and wrist (end).
