Jordyn Tiedemann Lesson Plan #1

Lesson Date/Time: February 13, 2014 Number of Students: Small Group. 2

Content Area: Time

Materials Needed: Worksheets, clock, deck of cards for the game, and pencil Lesson Objective: Understanding hour/minutes. Listening and following directions to know what the hands on the clock mean and understanding every number on the clock. (3 stands for 15) Standards addressed and expectations of students: Measurement and Data, working with time and money. Anticipatory Set: When I was a little girl, I wanted to know the time I was born. I knew my birthday but I thought it would be fun learning the time! But there was one problem; I didnt really know my time, so my mom and dad had to teach me. Would you like to learn how to tell time with me?! Teaching/Instructional Process: So with telling time there are two hands on the clock. The small hand tells you the hours (1, 2, 3, etc.) the big hand tells you the minutes. Each number counts in 5s; the 1 stands for 5 minutes and the 2 stands for 10. (showing them on the clock) If I put the big hand on the 4 and the little hand on the 12, I made the clock say 12:20. Guided Practice and monitoring: Can you guys put out times on the clock for me, and then tell me what it is? Also on this piece of paper, I want you to show me what it looks like when you put the minute and hour hand on the clock.

Closure: So now that you guys know how to tell time, do the rest of the worksheet for me and draw a picture of something you might be doing at that time of day. Independent Practice: Alright so now Im going to give you all a deck of cards with a bunch of times on them, what youre going to do is take them out and partner up with either 2 or 3 people. Im going to give you a sheet of paper with a bunch of clocks on them. With this you guys are going to play bingo with matching the time on the clocks with the times on the bingo sheet.
