STANDARDS/OUTCOMES

VI. As a result of their schooling, students will be able to demonstrate and apply a knowledge and sense of
numbers, including numeration and operations.
OBJECTIVES Through these learning activities, the student will be able to:

Students will be able to tell a time when looking at an analog clock.

INSTRUCTION
Introduction/Instructional activities/Conclusion

As an introduction to this lesson we will look at the clock on the wall and figure out what time it is.
We will decide if there are any other ways to say the time, for example if the clock reads 10:45 the
students may say it is 45 minutes after 10 or quarter to 11.
Then we will talk about the way we are going to do the activity. Students will be seated and they
will each be given a handout for the assignment. There will be 24 clocks on each piece of paper.
Students must look at the clocks as they appear on the screen. They must then write down the time
for each clock on their paper. They will be told that every few clocks they will get up and
participate in a physical activity. The activities will be explained before they begin the activity. We
will check every clock to make sure students have the right time and are not just guessing. They can
use the clocks we made on Monday along with the sheet protectors to write on if need be.
When the activity is over we will again read the clock on the wall to see what time it is.
How this lesson provides for ASSESSMENT of student learning:
Pre-assessment
Reading the time on the clock before the lesson.
Checking up
Checking clock times throughout the activity.
Post-assessment
Checking each childs paper and correcting it for correct clock time.
How this lesson provides DIFFERENTIATION for the students in this class

Often times Mia and Sophia are not paying attention during the lesson. We will discuss that it is
very important to pay attention during this activity and use the clocks we made so they do not have
to guess they can find the right answer.
