Logic Families - TTL

TTL ( Transistor-transistor Logic ) - Use bipolar junction transistor in IC manufacturing technology. - Consists of several logic circuit series (standard TTL, low power TTL, Schottky TTL, low power Schottky TTL, advanced low power Schottky TTL and advance Schottky TTL). - Prefix number 54 or 74 followed by alphabet indicating the TTL series. Example: Standard TTL = 54 or 74 Low power TTL = 54L or 74L - Prefix 54 indicates operating temperature between 550C and 1250C (normally for army usage). - Prefix 74 indicates operating temperature between 00C and 700C (normally for commercial usage).

Logic Families- CMos

CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) Use field effect transistors in IC manufacturing technology. Logic function is the same as TTL. It differs from TTL in terms of performance characteristics. Falls into two categories i.e. Metal-Gate CMOS and Silicon-Gate CMOS. CMOS Metal-Gate consists of 4000 series while SiliconGate CMOS consists of 74C, 74HC and 74HCT. All CMOS 74 series are compatible with TTL series in terms of pin number and functions.
