Purpose:
1. To sing a melody in unison.
2. To sing chord roots.
3. To sing a countermclody.
TEACHING PLAN
Everyone should be seated in self space.
Teach the Song
Play the recording of "Skjp to My Lou" so that the
students become familiar with the song. Teach the
song using the Rotc Song Teaching Procedure Verbal
Association skill level found in the Rcferencc
Manual. After students have learned to sing thc song,
have them look at the notation on page 50 of their
books. Play the recorded accompanimcnt and have
students sing thc S(lTIg.
Sing in Harmony
Sing the following chord root accompaniment for the
students. Ask them to echo you.

As soon as they can sing the chord root accompani-
ment, you sing the melody as the students sing the
chord root accompaniment. Then, divide the class
into two groups, and assign thc melody to one group
and the chord root accompaniment part to the other.
Repeat, revcrsing group assignments.
Aftcr the students are comfortablc singing in two-
part harmony, ask the students to listen as you sing
the following countermelody. Ask them to echo you.
Shoo. shoo, etc.
As soon as they can sing the counterrnelody, sing the
melody as the students sing the countermelody.
Then. divide thc class into two groups and assign the
melody to onc group and the countcrmclody part to
the other. Rcpeat, reversing group assignments.
