Ch 12 Tutorial -Actuator Bracket Help

Check that you have the correct Sheet Metal Defaults


(see other help file )



Step 1 Select a new Sheet Metal (in).ipt file
Note: This is a sheet metal ipt.


Step 2 create a new sketch
Create the sketch above and dimension it as you draw. Start with the circle at the origin (red dot in the center).
Step 3 Click on finish sketch and the click on the Face command ( do not use extrude).
















Step 4 Click on the Flange command to create the sides of the Actuator Bracket and touch the edge of the
part as shown below. Do this to both sides of the part.
The Height Datum is set to bend from the intersection of the two outer surfaces ( far left)
The Bend Position to outside of the base face extends (second from the left)
The Height Extents Distance to 0.5 in


























Step 5 Create a new sketch on the edge of one of the flanges and draw the sketch shown below.























Step 6 Click on the Face command.

Step 7 Use the Mirror command to reflect the left half face on to the right haf face. Do this by making the YZ plane
visable (open the origin folder and right click on the YZ plane to make it visable). Click on the face that you created as
the feature and click on the YZ plane as the mirror plane.










Step 8 Creating the side cut outs
Create a new sketch on one of the flanges ( sides) as shown below. This feature will be a hole that is cut
through both of the flanges. Note that the hole is 0.300 inches from the origin. The distance from center to
center is 0.450 inches and the width is 0.065 inches.























Step 9 Click on the Model tab to get to the Extrude command. Extrude cut to ALL to cut through both flang pieces.


Step 10 Creating the fold features.
Create a new sketch on the feature shown and draw a horizontal line all the way across the part that is 0.525
inches from the origin. Click on finished sketch.











Step 11 Select the Fold command from the Sheet Metal tab

Select the line that you drew in the sketch as the Bend Line.
For the Fold Location select the start of bend ( middle
choice)



Step 12 Creating the flat pattern
You will need a flat pattern for your drawings.
From the Sheet Metal tab click on the Go To Flat Pattern icon the far right of the ribbon.







Step 13 (Last step)Below is the flat pattern for the folded part ( the Actuator Bracket).
