Rules
CompetitorsmustbecurrentmembersoftheUniversityAllianceProgram.
EachAllianceSchoolmayenteruptotwomodules(onepercategory)withupto1/3ofthemoduleareaavailable
fordesignsubmittedbyprofessor(professorsdesignwillnotbejudged).
Eachcompetinguniversitymustidentifyaleadstudentpercategoryentered.
Competitorsmustselectonedevicetobejudgedfromeachmodulesubmitted.Thedevicemustbeclearlymarked
andenclosedwithaboxdrawnontheconstructionlayer.
ThepresubmissionchecklistandapeerreviewusingSUMMiTVdesignreviewguidelinesmustbecompletedprior
todesignsubmission.
DesignsmustpasstheDesignRuleChecker.RequestsforDRCerrororadvisoryruleexemptionsmustbe
submittedtodrt@drc.sandia.govpriortothesubmissiondeadline.
Designmustbecontainedwithinstandard2820x6340modulesize.Ifintendingtopackagedie,pleaseindicate
soonyourIntenttoSubmitemail.
ContestantswillberequiredtogranttoSandiaCorporation,operatorofSandiaNationalLaboratories,theright,
licenseandpermissionunderpatent,copyrightorotherintellectualorindustrialpropertyrighttomake,use,sell,
distribute,perform,modify,reproduceanddisplayanyandalldesigns,drawings,orothermaterialssubmittedto
Sandiabywhatevermeans.Sandiawillonlyacceptoriginaldesignscreatedbystudentswiththeassistanceof
theirprofessors.Noprofessionaldesignsubmissionswillbeacceptedforthisstudentcontest.Sandiamay
distributepartscreatedbydesignsubmissionstootherUniversityAlliancemembers.
Awards
WinningdesignsandHonorableMentionsfrombothcategorieswillbefabricatedonSandiasMay2011reticleset
andeachwinningschoolwillreceiveaselectionoftheirMEMSfabricatedpartsforuseintheircurriculum.
ParticipantsfrombothcategorieswillbeinvitedtovisitSandiatopresenttheirdesigntoSandiasdesignreview
team,meetwithMEMSexperts,andtourthefacilitiespendingSNLapproval.
AllUAschoolregardlessofparticipatingincompetitionwillreceiveSandiadesignedUA661releasedparts.
ThefirstplaceteamfromeachcategorywillreceiveaoneyearorganizationalmembershiptoMANCEF.Thisis
normally$2000/yearandwillinclude5individualmembershipstoMANCEF,acopyofMANCEFs1

MANCEFwillalsoawardaplenaryspeakingslotatCOMS2011tobeheldinNorthCarolinaforeach
