OPTIMIZATION OF CONTROLLERS USING WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

The process control industries such as sugar mill, paper manufacturing industries and
chemical industries are running day and night to produce these finished products. The
controllers are playing a major role in all process control industries for these processes to be
conducted at specific conditions. The process run time, industrial safety and quality of products
in the industries depend upon the behavior of controllers. Every process in the industry has
multiple inputs and outputs for making the process as efficient as possible. The process variable
parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow, level etc., are important factors in process
control industries and it should be controlled and monitored in proper manner using controllers.
The processes, having multi inputs are not continuously linear right from the beginning to the
end of the process. The conventional PID controllers used in the industries requires more time
to make the process linear. So, it is required to optimize the tuning parameters of controllers
where the system has more than one input with disturbances.
The traditional controllers such as model reference adaptive controller
(MRAC), Model predictive controllers (MPC), Internal model controllers (IMC) are also having
a major impact for controlling the process parameters. The tuning parameters for conventional
and traditional controllers require a sophisticated method for accessing the controller input based
on the feedback of the system. This project focuses on the design of tuning parameters based on
the optimization techniques such as Fuzzy logic, Neural networks, Genetic algorithm and various
optimization techniques. Since the process has been monitored with the computers, it is very
easy to interface controllers along with the software and the data can be collected easily from the
sensors for various process parameters. Those sensors are interconnected to form a network
called wireless sensor networks (WSN). Those networks will give the advantage of conveniently
controlling and monitoring the status of process anywhere in the world via internet. This project
focuses on the design of optimization techniques to the controller and in the building of sensor
networks for wireless data transmission from the field to anywhere across the world.
