interviewing candidates for the position of Executive Housekeeper. Make a list of 10
interview questions that you will ask each candidate. Make sure that these questions
are structured and at least 5 of the 10 questions must be situational.

• What do you know about our hotel?

• Why would you want this job?

• Why would I want to choose you for this position over the many other
candidates?

• If you were the Executive Housekeeper and you have an employee that is very
hard working, a team player and is the sole breadwinner of his/her large family –
but you catch him/her stealing from the rooms; How would you handle this
situation?

• Can you tell me what you consider as 3 of your strengths and 3 weaknesses?

• You come in to work and find that someone slept in one of the unoccupied guest
rooms – upon investigation; you find out that it was the manager from the
restaurant of the hotel; this isn’t the first time it’s happening. You have spoken to
him about it but he says he works late and sometimes is just too tired to go
home. Things aren’t going well in his personal life either. What are you going to
about it?

• One of your employees comes in very upset – a guest made inappropriate

advances towards her – how would you react?

• The management decides that instead of the usual 2 days that the employees
get off; now they are only going to get one day off and need to work a ten hour
shift. Nobody is happy about this – especially not your employees – morale is on
an all time low. What do you do?

• What would you do differently in this hotel to make sure that the housekeeping
duties are completed in optimum time without wasting resources?

• The day is almost coming to an end, you have already worked an hour overtime
– the corridor’s outside the rooms are being cleaned – a guest has a small baby
asleep and asks for the cleaners to stop. The investors are staying at the hotel as
well. Everything needs to look perfect. Your workers want to go home. What do
you think is the best thing to do in such a case?
