Why did they get it?

of how to determine the main
idea and supporting details.
Why didnt they get it?
They had difficulty
determining the main idea
and correct supporting
details.
Why didnt they get it?
They had difficulty determining the
main idea and correct supporting
details. Often included too much
information or just copied article.
Next Steps:
Use informational text to take
notes from.
Next Steps:
Continue to read and show
how to find the main idea
and details that support it.
Next Steps:
Use below grade level text to find main
idea and correct supporting details. Use
shorter text pieces.

Reflections: This SMART goal built on the T1 ELA goal of finding the main idea and supporting
details. We found some students wanted to include TOO much information so on the final assessment
we decided to give them one section for the main idea and space for only four specific details.
