Standard How the lesson connects:
IRA 1.2 Education has evolved over time. Twenty years ago, this
lesson would not have been possible or at least would not
have been as effective because twenty years ago there were
no iPads, no chromebooks, and very few computers in the
classrooms. Education has evolved over time and as
education evolves, teachers must also evolve. Reading and
writing now encompasses digital texts that students must
understand how to navigate and must understand how to sift
through the massive amounts of information.
IRA 2.2 This lesson teaches the students the strategy of note taking.
The students must be able to collect and organize notes.
IRA 2.3 This lesson has students gaining relevant information from a
digital text.
IRA 4.2 The students are actively engaged in this lesson. With the
gradual release of responsibility, the students are able to
have the lesson modeled for them, are able to collaborate
with a peer, and then are able to work individually. The
students may be used to taking notes in a notebook for their
eyes only. This lesson will have the students collecting notes
with other students and collaborating using the wiki.
IRA 5.1 This lesson is designed for students to use the digital texts
available on the internet. The students will also be able to
explore the different operating systems. The students will
choose which operating system they prefer to use and will
explore the internet with credibility in mind. This lesson
promotes research and online reading. The students will have
to look at the text features of online reading.

KTS 6.1 This lesson was planned with my schools available
technology in mind. My lesson is planned with the thought
that I do not always know what technology will be available
on certain days at certain times and I plan my lessons so that
they can be used on multiple forms of technology. I also plan
that some students are not comfortable using the iPads and
more comfortable with computers or chromebooks.
KTS 6.2 This technology lesson incorporates the gradual release of
responsibility model to teach students how to effectively
evaluate a website. This lesson is scaffolded to meet the
needs of all learners.
KTS 6.3 This lesson incorporates the students using the internet,
chromebooks, iPads, and iMacs to effectively find prevalent
information from an online text. The students will also be
using the wiki, which is a free technology.
KTS 6.4 I will be able to use the wiki to see what goods the students
are noting and can provide feedback to the students throught
the wiki.
KTS 6.5 The students must provide the URL to site their information
and know that the information is not their own.

ISTE 2 In this lesson the students must communicate the goods
found in their region via the class wiki. The students will be
collaborating with peers to do research and take notes on the
goods found in different regions.
ISTE 3 The students must find relevant information from the online
texts. The students will have to organize their information on
the class wiki page.
ISTE 5 The students will understand that I am using a resource from
another website and I am giving credit to the creators of the
tool. The students will give the source (URL) to give credit to
the source of the information.
ISTE 6 The students will understand how to use the iPads,
chromebooks, and the iMacs.

TPACK The students need to understand the different operating
systems of iPad, computers, and chromebooks. The students
must be able to effectively navigate the different
technologies.
TPACK The pedagogy employed is the gradual release of
responsibility that scaffolds the learning of the students. The
evaluation sheet will be modeled for students. The students
and I will participate in a I do, we do, you do model.
TPACK The previous lesson has the students identifying credible
resources. Before the students research and take notes, I will
read the different sites to ensure that the sites are credible
and the students can gain relevant information from the
websites. The students will gain more knowledge of the
goods in the United States

LITERACY.W.4.8
Recall relevant
information from
experiences or
gather relevant
information from
print and digital
sources; take
notes and
categorize
information, and
provide a list of
sources.
The students will be reading a digital text on an iPad,
chromebook, or iMac. The students will have to read the text
and identify what information is relevant. The students will
have to transfer that information to the class wiki and
organize the information based upon the region of the United
States. The students must also place the URL on the page to
give credit to the sources.

Connection to Literature

As stated in Sandens article (2011) wikis are interactive and
collaborative. This lesson allows the students to collaborate with each other to
collect information on the wiki and read through online texts that were compiled
on the wiki. The educause.edu article (2005) reminds teachers that wikis are
online portfolios that can be changed and modified by multiple people. This
lesson has the students using the wiki collaboratively. I will use the wiki, the
students will use the wiki in pairs, and the students will use the wiki individually.
As Andes (2011) detailed in her article, online tools can excite students to read
and write. This lesson is in a series of other lessons. Hopefully, my students will
be engaged by the online nature of the wiki. Morgan (2008) mentioned that
students need time to play around with the new technology and become familiar
with how the technology works. I feel that this lesson is a way for students to
begin playing around with the wiki. This lesson is a basic lesson of taking notes
but will help the students become familiar with the wiki so when we proceed to
more difficult lessons they will understand the wiki.
