Lime briquetting is a process of
compaction of lime fines into
briquettes of a size similar to the
premium product in almond shapes.

In this form, the full volume of fines
can be reclaimed and used along
with the top-quality lime.

This can significantly improve plant
productivity and cut unit costs by
making use of raw material.

Binders & Lubricants


Binders or Lubricants are additives that increase the
strength of the briquette by helping to hold the particles
together.

Lubricants are mixed into the feed material before
briquetting and provide a denser briquette by reducing
friction between particles during compaction.

The basic components of a roll-type briquetting Machines
are two rotating rolls ,
with half-briquette cavities cut into the circumference of
each. The cavities on opposing rolls match up as the rolls
turn, momentarily forming whole cavities as both halves
simultaneously pass through the roll centre-line.



The Briquetting Machines
Loose material is fed between the rolls at their nip region
(where the rolls come together),
filling the cavities just prior to closure.
Pressure applied to the material by the closing of the
cavities compresses
the materials into a solid mass.
As each cavity passes beyond roll center-line, its two
halves naturally move apart, allowing the formed
briquette to slide out and discharge from the machine.

At Bokaro Steel Plant
in the RMP
area one Quick Lime Fines Briquetting Plant
was commissioned in the year 1990
and due to change in the product mix it is lying
inoperative for more than 20 years

PROBLEM

Briquetted lime produced had the crush strength
less
than that of natural pebble lime
As a result, briquettes would suffer
breakage and disintegration
during material handling breaking into powder
half way to the user departments ,
SMS I & II.

This exactly what CAUSED the RMP

PRESENT STATUS OF LIME FINES BSL


At present the entire (-) 10 mm quick lime not separated at any
stage, thus being fed in the Converters.

The fines are generating pollution problem at all the area involved
i.e. Lime Receiving Building, Junction Houses, and SMS I & II.

There are approximately 75 tons per day (-) 10 mm lime is
generated. The Guaranteed generation has been advised of 50
tons
.
