Flood Profile Modeling with a Bridge

Workshop description
In this workshop, you will add a bridge to the Rabbit Creek model and use HEC-RAS to
run a steady flow simulation of bridge hydraulics !ou will be gi"en a basic geometry file
and a basic flow file - both will need to be modified !ou will be re#uired to create a new
plan file
Problem data
Given: $he geometry file, a rating cur"e for the downstream boundary condition, and
bridge data are pro"ided $he pro%ect file &including the geometry' is located in
C()HEC)RAS)*orkshop+) and is called FloodProfileWithBridge - Rabbit Creek
Required: ,etermine the peak stages upstream from the bridge for the three discharges
in the flow file

Bridge data
- 6rom the 7eometric ,ata Editor click on the 8ridge9Cul"ert editor icon, and under
:ptions, select ;Add a 8ridge or Cul"ert< $he bridge will be placed between Ri"er
Stations -. and --, at Ri"er Station -.0 $he bridge is located 5. feet downstream from
RS -- $he bridge is 2. feet wide
+ Enter the ,eck9Roadway data $he roadway fill e=tends to Station 23. on the left
abutment of the bridge and begins again at Station 32. $he roadway embankment side
slopes are + to - $he bridge deck e=tends from Station 23. to Station 32. $he bridge
deck is hori>ontal at ele"ation +-0. and the low chord ele"ation is +-5.
5 Enter the ?ier data $he bridge has 4 piers with s#uare noses Abo"e ele"ation +.3.
the pier width is + feet@ below ele"ation +.3. the pier width is 4 feet $he centerline of
the first pier is at Station 24. and the piers are on +. ft centers Aote that because the
piers are all identical, you use the copy command in the pier editor to copy the pier data
to a new pier, and only the centerline station needs to be changed
