Facilitation Centre for Industrial Plasma Technologies (FCIPT)

Facilitation Centre for Industrial Plasma Technologies (FCIPT) is a division under Institute for
Plasma Research (IPR) which mainly focuses on technology development for social benefits and
industries. FCIPT develops plasma based technologies and commercialises through Technology
Transfer to industrial partners. Some of the Social beneficial technologies developed by FCIPT are as
below. For complete details visit www.plasmaindia.com.
Reducing erosion & corrosion of metals
Plasma nitriding process is used as surface hardening technique in most of the industrial sectors like
automobile, textiles, machinery, etc. The salient features of
the technology are
Environmentally friendly technique
Least possible distortion and negligible dimensional
changes
High reproducibility
No grinding is required
Easy to manipulate to surface with required phase
No salt residues, therefore no removal expenses
caused by those undesirable salt deposits on the
work piece surface, in holes and threads required
Reduced time duration cycles
No harmful emissions like cyanide or ammonia.

Environment friendly waste disposal technology
High temperature produced by plasma is used to dispose the biomedical waste without producing any
pollutants. This technology can also be used to recover energy from high calorofic wastes like
plastics, petroleum waste, biomass, leather waste, etc. This system is installed at 11 various places in
all over India for disposing Biomedical waste. The salient features of
this technology are
It can handle all categories of biomedical waste
No emission of toxic pollutants like Dioxins and Furans
Approved by Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi
No additional fuel required
Environment friendly technology

Making wool more cohesive

Atmospheric Plasma Processing System for Angora Wool (APPAW) modifies the angora wool fibre
surface by etching. This facilitates spinning and weaving of 100% Angora products. The industrial
scale plants were installed at Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The salient features of this
technology are

Eco-friendly.
Improves the quality of Angora wool woven
fabrics.
Retains warmth of wool.
Can substitute the imported expensive
products for high altitude clothing.
No harmful emissions like acids and other liquids

Surface activation of Carbon Granule
Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) based atmospheric plasma activates the surface of the Carbon
granule and improves the surface wettability property. This increases the adsorption capacity of the
filters made of treated carbon granules. The system is designed, developed and supplied to M/s.
Filtrex Technologies, Bangalore. The salient features of this technology are
Eco-friendly
No chemicals and special gases required
Can be used to filter water at gravity pressure
Ease operation and process flexibility.
