OXIDIZED CELLULOSE
An acid degradation product of cellulose that is
usually obtained by oxidizing cotton or gauze with
nitrogen dioxide,
Can be produced by the action of an oxidizing agent
such as chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid,
chlorine dioxide, persulfates, permanganate
A sterile absorbable substance prepared by the
oxidation of cotton containing not less than 16% and
not more than 22% of carboxyl.

It is known as a biodegradable, bioresorbable and
biocompatible polymer with no adverse reaction to
the body.
USE:
haemostatic (as in surgery)
Wound dressing
Bodying agent in preparation of cosmetic and
pharmaceutical preparation
Deodorant for adsorbent pads
Water insoluble derivative of Cellulose
