Activity Objectives

1. I can identify cell structures.

2. I can compare and contrast structures in
animal and plant cells.
3. I can explain and discuss the functions of
cell structures.
Unit: Cell Structure and Functions
Grade: 9th grade Biology
ISTE Standard:
-Creativity and Innovation: Apply existing knowledge to generate new
ideas, products, or processes
Rationale: Students have a graphic comparison of cell types and
structures and can visually recognize and compare between
animal and plant cells. They are given the vocabulary and are
responsible for correctly labeling structures. Students can then
use the visual structures to compare how they may relate to cell
function.
Directions: Students drag and drop cell structure vocabulary to the
corresponding structure. Students must identify structures that are
found only in animal or plant cells and those that are found in both.
Students will discuss why animal or plant cells have particular
structures that the other does not have (what function do these
structures serve?).
