Kohler Festival of Beer grilling
weekend promises fun & froth
Destination Kohler hosts a distinctive food pairing
and beer-themed weekend with new events
Mueller state champion
in boys 300 hurdles,
Linck medals for the girls
Kohler senior Brett Mueller won
the state title in the boys 300 hur-
dles at the WIAA Division 3 State
Track and Field Championships in
LaCrosse June 5-7. Mueller, who
was the No. 1 seed in the finals,
crossed the finish line with a time
of 39.65 seconds.
Kohler senior Valerie Linck
brought home a 4th place medal in
the girls 300 hurdles with a time of
46.76 seconds. It was Lincks per-
sonal best time.
The Blue Bombers girls 800
relay team consisting of seniors
Valerie Linck and Courtney Rut-
ten, sophomore Anna Messales
and freshman Megan Sprinkman
took ninth in the finals at 1:50.05.
Joe Pellowski was 12th in the pre-
liminaries for the boys 400 meter
dash with a time of 51.80.
Grose, Fink, make first
trip to state for tennis
By Suzanne Fink
Andrew Grose was just a lonely
singles player making his way up
through the rankingsNoah Fink,
a doubles man, who had gone
through more partners in his three
years on the team than he had girl-
friends.
Coach Derrick Cherney paired
the two of them together and they
clicked as a combination from
their very first game.
(The change) made our doubles
lineup stronger, but more impor-
tantly our team as a whole, Cher-
ney said, noting the two different
personalities the duo brings to the
court.
They figured things out quickly
and they never looked back. Two
guys that wouldnt have made it to
state on their own are teaming up
to represent Kohler; very satisfy-
ing for everyone involved.
The duo made their way through
the end of conference play with a
5-1 record, losing only to Mani-
towoc Roncalli. At sub-sectionals
they were able to defeat Two
Rivers to advance to sectional play
where they faced off against the
undefeated Oshkosh Lourdes
Academy. Next on their docket
was the state tournament, where
they faced the University School
of Milwaukee sophomore Zach
Schneck and junior Andrew
Buchanan (17-6) on Thursday,
June 5th. This is where the story
ends, as they fell in their opening
match 6-2, 7-5. The road to Madi-
son may not have led to a victory
for Andrew and Noah, but the jour-
ney getting there was well worth it.
Congratulations on a great season!
All are invited to
celebrate Kohler Fire
Departments 100th
birthday August 23
The Village of Kohler volunteer
fire department invites everyone to
join them in celebrating their 100th
birthday on Saturday, August 23.
As part of the celebration, all
Sheboygan County fire depart-
ments are invited to participate in
a parade of fire apparatus through
the Village of Kohler.
The parade will begin at 11:30
a.m., with staging at 10:30 a.m. in
the Kohler Co. parking lot located
north of the Human
Resources/Medical office at the
500 block of Highland Drive.
County departments are welcome
to bring as many vehicles as they
are able to. KFD hopes to have
100% participation from all
County departments.
After the parade, all are wel-
come to enjoy an afternoon of
food, beverages, and live music at
Lost Woods Park at the junction of
Valley Road and Lower Falls
Road. Back by popular demand,
the highly acclaimed Skyhouse
Band will perform during the gath-
ering.
Area fire departments should be
advised that the railroad trestle
over Valley Road north of the park
has a clearance of only 12 feet. The
parade will not go under the trestle,
but drivers of 12-foot rigs should
take an alternative route to the cel-
ebration at Lost Woods Park.

Kohler High School athletes
were honored at an annual sports
banquet Tuesday, June 3, spon-
sored by the Kohler Athletic
Booster Club. Awards were
handed out to eight talented ath-
letes. Three athletes were recog-
nized as four-sport letter winners
and five participated in three
sports.
To attain this award, an athlete
must possess a multi-sport ability
for athletics as well as a dedication
to commit themselves to three or
four seasons of participation. The
athletes were also acknowledged
for the hard work and effort put
forth in order to earn a letter at the
varsity level.
Varsity three-letter awards this
year include seniors Sara Ertel,
Zach Neil, Brett Mueller, Joe Pel-
lowski and sophomore, Amanda
Egbert.
Varsity four-letter awards went
to seniors Eric Bauer, Calvin Ste-
fanczyk and junior, Noah Fink.
Congratulations athletes on a great
year!
The Kohler volunteer fire de-
partment was officially organized
on February 9, 1914. The first
chief was Anton Brotz, Sr. The
first piece of fire apparatus was a
hand drawn La France chemical
engine which took six men to pull
to the fire. The chemical engine
was charged with sulphuric acid
and soda and had to be flushed out
and recharged after use. In 1920, a
hand drawn ladder apparatus was
added.
The first fire call for the newly
formed department was a grass fire
in Ravine Park on November 20,
1914.
In June, 1925 a 1,000 gallon per
minute pump motorized Seagrave
fire engine was purchased.
The fire departments apparatus
has been updated over the years,
with the most recent being a 2013
Pierce aerial/platform truck. The
department also owns a 2004
Pierce rescue truck, 1994 Pierce
attack pumper, 1984 Pierce mini
pumper, 6x6 ATV, and a boat.
The Kohler volunteer fire de-
partment currently consists of 25
active firefighters and 18
social/honorary members. The ac-
tive firefighters drill/practice at
least two times per month. All
member meet once a month for the
regular business/social meeting.
The current active members are
Chief Michael Lindstrom, Deputy
Chief Gary Lindow, Deputy
Chief/Secretary Jack Jarvis, Cap-
tain/Treasurer Dan Fibiger, Cap-
tain Chuck Keller, Captain Chris
Berlin, Lt. Greg Lindstrom, Lt.

Baseball is back! Whether it be
Little League, high school, or the
prosno other sports opening
day has quite the same impact on
the soul as this one. Lets play
ball!
There is no better way to kick
off a season opener than with a
win. The Lutheran/Kohler Cru-
saders did just that, with a con-
vincing 13-2 CLC victory over the
Random Lake Rams on the road
Friday, May 30.
On the mound for the Crusaders
were Paul Vicente, Calvin Ste-
fanczyk and Noah Fink. Fink
struck out seven of nine batters
during three innings of pitching.
Combined, the pitchers struck out
13 Rams players.
The bats were in full swing as
Stefanczyk went 2-for-3 with two
walks, three RBIs and two runs
scored. Phil Case was 2-for-3 with
two walks, two RBIs and three
runs. Fink scored twice.

Hello again, everybody...Its a
bee-yoo-tiful day for baseball.
Harry Caray.
A beautiful day it was indeed,
as Lutheran/Kohler routed Elkhart
Lake by a final score of 14-0 on
Thursday, June 5.
Pitching for the Crusaders was
Calvin Stefanczyk, allowing for
only two hits and a walk with
seven strikeouts.
Connecting with the bat were
Phil Case with two hits and Paul
Vicente with two RBI and three
runs scored to lead the Crusaders
in the hitting department.
Lutheran Kohler 2, Oostburg 0
A pitcher needs two pitches,
one theyre looking for and one to
cross them up. Warren Spahn
Calvin Stefanczyk had both on
June 9, as he threw for a shutout
with 12 strike-outs and three hits
as the Crusaders claimed the CLC
win on the road.
Scoring in the first and last in-
nings, Stefanczyk had the teams
only RBI.
I ts time to put on your thinking
caps for some baseball trivia.

first Major League player to pitch
a ball over 100 mph? Choose Your
Answer: A: Dwight Gooden, B:
Nolan Ryan, C: Roger Clemens,
D: Tom Seaver. If you selected
(B), you are correct! On Septem-
ber 7, 1974, in a game against the
White Sox, California Angels
pitcher Nolan Ryan became the
first player to break the 100 mph
barrier when one of his pitches
was officially clocked at 100.8
miles per hour.
