InTASC Standard:

Standard #3: Learning Environments
The teacher works with others to create environments that support
individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social
interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.(InTasc, 2011)

Brief Description of Evidence:
As part of my EDUC 255 Multicultural Learning in Diverse Setting, during the
Spring 2014 Semester, I worked collaboratively to create a Multi-Cultural Observational
Checklist. This was then used individually to evaluate a classroom that I observed. The
tool observed classroom surroundings regarding race, sex, creed, or sexual orientation,
etc. as displayed on bulletin boards posted within the classroom.
Analysis of What I Learned:
I learned to view classroom elements to engage multiple cultures of students and
to look at each element to determine if it promotes cultural acceptance or
furthers/inflates negative stereotypes. I investigated classrooms for different elements
to show diversity of cultures for each student in the class based off of what I learned
during classroom lectures/PowerPoints. I learned how the environment can be made to
accommodate various cultures within the classroom.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard:
This demonstrates my competence in this InTASC Standard area because I
submitted evidence of understanding multicultural views without biases. I understand
how to create environments that support both individual and collaborative learning. By
being able to create a room with these diverse elements, it promotes a positive social
interaction and helps students get actively engaged through self-motivation.
