Directions: There are two roles, the writer (author) and the reviewer (editor). Each writer must conference with the same reviewer two times: 1) revising process 2) editing process.
Reviewer: Use the editing symbols below and a colored pen (green, purple, red) to edit your partners work.
Writer: Your job is to read the reviewers suggestions and decide if the suggestions will improve your writing or not. Make any corrections that you feel will improve your writing.
1. Spelling a. Most commonly misspelled words b. Homophones: their, theyre, there / witch, which c. Personal word lists & teacher lists
2. Grammar a. Verb Tense: Past, present, future is consistent. Use present tense verbs when writing about literature (is angry vs. was angry) b. Capitalization: Titles, Names, Places. Follow capitalization rules. c. Titles: Books are underlined or italicized (if typed). Use quotations when pieces are shorter (short story, articles, poems, songs, etc.) or if it belongs to a collection, like the Grimm Fairy Tales. d. Who or That: who (person) / that (thing)
3. Punctuation a. Ending punctuation (. ! ?): Did you use the correct one? b. Commas: Follow the comma rules you have learned so far. i. Series Comma ii. Appositives iii. FANBOYS (compound sentences) iv. Introductory phrases
